Kusal Perera handed four years ban for doping

The Sri-Lankan wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Perera has been handed a four year ban from cricket after his B sample was tested positive for a banned substance. He was earlier ruled out of the New Zealand tour.

The wicket-keeper’s urine sample was tested in Qatar after ICC initially found that it contained a banned substance. He has however received support from the Sri Lankan Sports Minister, who said that they will appeal the ban.

“The ICC has informed that he faces a four-year ban,” Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera said. “We are hoping to appeal.”

Jayasekera had previously mentioned it as a conspiuracy to keep him out of the T20 World Cup but after he was tested positive, the Sports Minister came in support of Perera.
“We are doing all we can to defend him," the minister said. "We are wondering if this allegation is a conspiracy to keep him out of next year's T20 World Cup.”

Reports said that prior to the New Zealand tour Kusal Perera spoke with Sri Lanka’s President, Maithripala Sirisena. And he has since received strong backing from both the staff and the sports authority.

Interim coach Jayaratne has also backed him. “Kusal feels he has not taken any form of drugs or any form of medication to that effect - so it's left to be seen how it will be investigated”, he said.

Mohammad Yousuf, Ramiz Raja in ugly fight over Mohammad Amir return

Watch Fight between Mohammad Yousuf vs Ramiz Raja Video

Former Pakistan captains Mohammad Yousuf and Rameez Raja were involved in a ugly battle on national television as the duo debated the possible return of Mohammad Amir into the national side.

The debate over whether tainted left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir should be allowed to play for Pakistan again has created a big divide in Pakistan cricket with former cricketers Mohammad Yousuf and Ramiz Raja engaging in a war of words on the issue during a TV show.

The two waded into each other and used some very personal, coarse and unrefined language on national television during a show on Geo Super channel.

Here's the English transcript:

Ramiz: Primarily, individuals should quit after they grow beard lying.
Yousuf: Shameless folks as if you are able to believe like this simply. You can just speak. You are not in a position to play cricket and today you’ve done this kind of thing. Get him. I would like to find out how large a cricketer he was. Folks as if you should not even speak on cricket. Are not you embarrassed of discussing such things about cricket.
Ramiz: Anything can be spoken by you, and you’ve done this kind of black thing.
Yousuf: I do not understand anything other than to play with cricket. Have you any idea the best way to do that? You’re simply a school teacher
Anchorman: I needed to understand about the participation in the team of Amir.

The offensive exchange of words took place over the issue of Aamir with Yousuf claiming Ramiz didn't know cricket, was a "Sifarashi" player and good only to be a teacher. Yousuf went one step further when he made some personal remarks against the former Test captain turned commentator who lost his cool on air.

It drew a sharp response from Ramiz who termed Yousuf, who sports a beard, as a fake Mullah who tells lies and who caused havoc in Pakistan cricket. The clips of the exchange soon became the talk of the social media with many former players, fans and critics expressing disappointment over the language used by both former stalwarts.

"It does not pass on the right message to anyone"

Pakistan's former Test captain Rashid Latif said what happened should never have happened and was most unfortunate.

"I have played with both these players. They are looked upon with respect by the fans. It does not pass on the right message to anyone," Latif said.

Ramiz has been clear about his views on allowing Aamir back into the national team.

"My views are clear to everyone but this is a decision that the Pakistan Cricket Board has to take and only time will tell whether they took the right decision or not," Ramiz said.

"I thought the PCB could have handled the Aamir matter in a better manner," he said.

Two of Pakistan's senior players Mohammad Hafeez and national one-day captain Azhar Ali both refused to train with Aamir in the national training camp in Lahore but later agreed to return on the intervention of the PCB chief Shaharyar Khan.

Ramiz said he was happy that the matter was resolved and Hafeez and Azhar returned to the camp. "But the Aamir issue has reached a very delicate stage now."

Responding to remarks from Yousuf that Aamir was the world's best bowler and that someone had instigated Azhar Ali, Ramiz said neither was Aamir the world's best bowler nor did anyone instigate Azhar.

"I thought they took a brave stand," he added.

Representing Smt. KC Gandhi School in the H.T. Bhandari Cup inter-school cricket tournament organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Dhanawade became the first player, in any form of representative cricket, to record a four-digit score. When he went past 1000, with the help of 124 fours and 59 sixes.

The most incredible scorecard you’re ever likely to see.
Unlikely that you will find such a scorecard.

He remained unbeaten on 1009 from just 323 deliveries with a strike-rate of 312.38 as his side declared the innings with 1465 runs on the board. His teammates Aakash Singh and Siddhesh Patil also helped themselves to centuries earlier on Day 1.

AB De Villiers to retire?

Image: ZEE News

The South African batsman had complained of increased workload due to international assignments and that he hardly gets any rest. De Villiers decided to skip the IPL because of that recently.

This may shock you a bit but this topic has been in talks all day. AB De Villiers who was brought in as a stand in skipper to lead in the remaining two tests against England has hinted retirement from international cricket.

"There have been a few rumors floating around, and in most rumors there is always a little bit of truth. It's not just in the last while; it's for two or three years I've been searching for the right answers, to play a little bit less cricket in one way or another, to keep myself fresh and to keep enjoying the game. Every now and then in the past few years I've found myself on the pitch not enjoying myself as much as I should be, and that raises concerns within myself. I've been searching for answers and speaking to people and obviously that's leaked a bit," de Villiers said.

"I think it's a growing concern for the ICC and they've been talking about it for the last few years to find the right structure to keep all the guys fresh. Obviously international cricket is the main cricket you want to play, especially Test cricket.

"There are huge traditions and culture in this format. I believe there are one or two areas where we can improve, and make sure that we keep the guys' focus in the right place," de Villiers said.

With T20 cricket on the rise, Test cricket is really dying. In an era where fans prefer it for the entertainment that it brings in, players are enticed by the lucrative offers and contracts in the cash rich T20 leagues. AB plays for the Royal Challengers in the Indian Premier league where he was bought for a whopping Rs. 9.5 crores, an amount much higher than his national contract.

“Obviously there are big tournaments going on around the world. Some you can't ignore because financially they make a huge difference in our lives, and obviously you've got to look after that side of it as well. International cricket is the main one you want to play, and one or two things will have to change in order for that to happen."

AB De Villiers has just quashed the retirement rumors and we all may see our hero calling it a day from Tests if not international cricket soon.

However, for now he is focused for the upcoming tests against England and looks forward to complete the task at hand currently.

"I'm still very committed to the job. The two Test matches for now are all I'm focusing on and then there's a nice big break of six months before we play Test cricket again. Lots of things can happen before then so I don't want to commit myself too much to everything before that. But for now, I'm as committed as I can be and very, very hungry to make a success of the next two Test matches."

"My focus is on international cricket and I want to play for as long as possible. I've got dreams of winning World Cups and maintaining this No.1 status in Test cricket for as long as possible. Obviously I want to get my experience across to some of the youngsters. There are so many dreams that I'd like to follow. I'd just like to sit down, take some time away from the game and discuss all these things and make the right call.", he said in an interview.

With a six month break till South Africa play another Test, chances are very high that this might be his last test series. Well, day by day Test cricket is diminishing and it certainly needs a revival. With players having limited time, they tend to chose T20s over representing their country as they have to “make most of what they’ve got” as quoted by Kevin Pietersen.

James Anderson involved in heated exchange with umpires

James Anderson appeared to suggest he'd been given only one warning.

James Anderson was involved in a heated verbal altercation with umpire Aleem Dar on the second day of the Johannesburg Test against South Africa, after the England seamer was removed from the attack by the official for transgressing the rules on 'running on the pitch'.

The conversation with the umpire first started in the 100th over of South African first innings. Anderson had already been warned twice in the match for running down the middle of the pitch after his delivery stride. The rules dictate that the bowler be withdrawn from bowling after a third violation.
Anderson argued that he had been warned only once. Alastair Cook, the England captain, admitted, at the end of the day's play, that his premier fast bowler had been warned twice previously - In the 61st and the 94th overs of the innings - for running on the protected area.

The move didn't affect England adversely as Ben Stokes took just one ball to wrap up the South African innings. Anderson, who took 1 for 60 in a rather subdued first innings performance, is unlikely to face further punishment for his actions.

Virat Kohli gives perfect reply to James Faulkner who tried to sledge him

In the 35th over of India’s innings in the 3rd ODI at the MCG, we saw an exchange of words between India’s Virat Kohli and Australia’s James Faulkner. India had reached 171/2 in 34 overs, and Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were at the crease.

Even as Kohli tried to hit his shots and increase the scoring rate, Faulkner’s first four deliveries of the 35th over were stopped within the inner circle. Four dot balls put some pressure on Kohli, and he stepped out of his crease on the fifth – only to guide the ball to the off side for a single. Faulkner, in a typical Aussie manner tried to sledge Kohli by saying ‘You tried to smash me there, but you failed.’ The move eventually backfired on him. He had earlier tried to rattle Kohli after the third ball, to which Kohli had reacted by looking down and waving him away. This time though, he was at the non-striker’s end and he had to respond.

The stump mic caught Kohli saying clearly, ‘I’ve smashed you enough in my life. Don’t waste your time, go bowl.’ This time, it was Faulker’s turn to put his head down and walk back to his mark.

The next over elicited the same amount of aggression, as Kohli first launched a ball into the skies which fell just short of Shaun Marsh, and then succeeded in launching the ball out of the park, scoring 12 runs of the 36th over.

Faulkner did come back to bowl one over after the drinks break that ensued, but Kohli did not face him.
